Why round the edge?

On a sharp edge the paint film thins, pulls back and lifts; corrosion starts there first. Rounding the edge lets the coating hold at full thickness and extends its service life.

Portable Edge Rounding (Radius) Machine

Portable Edge Rounding / Radius Machine

Paint does not hold on a sharp edge. On the sharp corner left after cutting, surface tension thins the paint film, it pulls back from the edge and lifts within a short time. Corrosion almost always starts at these edges, which is why shipbuilding and structural steel coating specifications require edges to be rounded to a defined radius (ISO 8501-3 edge preparation grades; high-durability coating systems typically call for at least R2).

The HBR-1400R completes this preparation in a single pass. Unlike hand dressing with a grinding wheel, the carbide-insert head produces a consistent, measurable radius, removing operator-to-operator variation. Its guide roller lets the machine track the edge by itself, holding the same profile on straight and curved edges alike.

The same body can be converted to 45° chamfering by changing the head. Because the inserts are indexable, only the insert is rotated at the end of its life rather than replacing the whole head, so consumable cost falls markedly compared with grinding wheels.
